Colorado Springs (July 8, 2014) – The Colorado Springs Professional Fire Fighters Union, IAFF Local 5, officially endorsed the reelection of State Senator Bernie Herpin in the race for Senate District 11 covering central Colorado Springs.

“The Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters are proud to endorse Senator Bernie Herpin, and pledge our support in his bid for reelection to the Colorado Senate,” IAFF Local 5 said as part of their official endorsement.

The firefighters pointed to Herpin’s leadership and his attention to his constituents as reasons to back his candidacy.

“Senator Herpin has proven himself an unwavering champion for firefighter issues, and has continued to maintain an open door, a sympathetic ear, and a common sense approach to governing,” said Jeremy Kunze of the Colorado Springs Professional Fire Fighters Union.

Senator Herpin expressed his appreciation for the endorsement from the fire fighters.

“When I was first elected, I vowed to work to make our community safer, listen to the constituents, and give our district a voice in Denver again,” Senator Herpin said.

“It’s humbling to have our first responders notice those efforts and support continuing that work next term,” Bernie Herpin stated.

IAFF Local 5 joins fellow first responders including the Colorado Springs Police Protective Association and El Paso County Sheriff-elect Bill Elder in endorsing Senator Herpin’s candidacy for reelection.

Prior to serving in the State Senate, Bernie Herpin was a 20-year veteran of the Navy and Air Force. Herpin lives in Colorado Springs with his wife of 49 years, Linda.
